Fun with questionaires

Dec 19

Sometimes I have a bunch of random, unrelated nonsense I want to blog about.  I decided to put all of that into the form of a questionnaire, so you all can copy and paste it and answer the questions yourselves.

Foods I don’t like but should:  cantaloupe, blueberries, most salad greens, strawberries

Foods I like but shouldn’t: liver mush. If you aren’t from the south you may not even know what that is.  Also, sometimes I think life would be easier if I didn’t like chocolate so much, but certainly not as enjoyable.

If I could learn to play any instrument it would be: the violin.  But this is non-realistic question.  We’re talking downloading knowledge from the matrix here.  If I actually had to learn, the answer would be something easy like the recorder.  Or chopsticks.

If I could work with anyone in my chosen profession it would be: Saul Williams.  You will likely read more posts about this man during the course of this blog.  I am slightly infatuated.  (You could say Saul Williams and I are not in the same profession, but he has an MFA in acting and has been in several movies.  So there.)

What I have learned about myself this year:  I am an actor, not a performer.  I don’t enjoy performing for the sake of performing.  I must connect with the character, content, and medium to enjoy acting.  I don’t like acting without a script, out of context, or on cue with no preparation.  Thus I have re-evaluated my career path and chosen a somewhat nontraditional course.

My pet peeves are: Internet shorthand (it is killing American literacy), fake apologies, smugness, excessive product packaging, someone abruptly changing the song on the radio (if you must change you should fade it out when possible), the phrase “also too” (redundant!), message boards (cesspools of epic idiocy and unchecked verbal cruelty), Anne Curry, Regis and Kelly, people who sing in public.  I know there are more but I can’t think of them right now.

Now, a Christmas gift from me to you:

Foods I don’t like but should: Indian food as a whole, the ‘good’ kind of lettuce (i.e.: not iceberg), most exotic blends of tea

Foods I like but shouldn’t: fried chicken, pizza (oh god, being from NY this is such a vice), cheesecake (ditto)

If I could learn to play any instrument it would be: I’m going with the cello, slightly over the violin or the piano. Presuming this is instantaneous knowledge. Because, frankly, I COULD learn to play an instrument; I just don’t care that much.

If I could work with anyone in my chosen profession it would be: Richard Dawkins. Nothing to do, at all, with his teaching abilities, per se. I’d just love to have a meeting-of-the-minds.

What I have learned about myself this year: I am not the type of person who will settle. I’ve written musicals, plays, and stories about not settling before– these were, however, mostly to exorcise the demons from within me. I was still settling with a girl I did not Love and a career that was unfulfilling. I stood up and broke things off with the girl and took the much harder road with my career. I will not settle. I will be happy.

My pet peeves are: bad taste in literature, Nabokov, Twilight, people who overrate certain movies as if they’re a godsend, poor grammar (and even non-obvious ones. It’s twelve items or FEWER, not LESS, dammit!), that air-tight sealed plastic packaging, when a TV show I enjoy is a rerun but there’s no warning that’s going to be the case, fanboys/fangirls in any real sense of the word for anything or anyone (including things I like), the word ‘emo’ somehow disallowing people to feel any level of emotions, the misappropriation of the word “Love” almost all the time

Foods I don’t like but should: Eastern NC Barbeque, Asparagus, and Carrot

Foods I like but shouldn’t: Oysters Rockefeller (It bankrupts me), Sushi, and Choco Taco.

If I could learn to play any instrument it would be: I’ve learned all the ones I wanted to learn, but I think it would be pretty cool to learn how to play the drums.

If I could work with anyone in my chosen profession it would be: In consulting, Seth Godin. In law, Greta Van Susteren. In business, Mark Cuban.

What I have learned about myself this year: I have a long way to go.

My pet peeves are: People who read a wikipedia article and subsequently think that they are an expert on the topic. People who make irrational arguments. People who pretend to be something they aren’t.

Foods I don’t like but should: greens, beans and cheesecake?

Foods I like but shouldn’t: sushi, frog legs, anything from a deep fryer

If I could learn to play any instrument it would be: the banjo, no questions asked

If I could work with anyone in my chosen profession it would be: thompson

What I have learned about myself this year: sometimes when everything looks as bleak as it can get, it really is a second chance for something incredible. going from divorced and dead end job to so happy in such a short period of time just shows how life has a way of working itself out.

My pet peeves are: people who don’t have a filter between their brain and mouth, ignorance, people who take life too seriously
