If any of you have been following me on Facebook for the past few months then you know that my life as a consumer has been completely overhauled. I am doing the best I can to buy environmentally and socially responsible products only. It hasn’t been easy, but definitely possible, thanks to thrift stores. I just got these shoes (by Simple) from The Green Loop. They were a very late birthday present.
Simple Shoes: It can be hard to find responsible products that are actually nice looking, but I like the selection at Simple. It’s a little granola, but so am I.
Tom’s Shoes is a great company and my next shoe purchase will likely be from them. I actually tried to order the gold sequin ones but they were sold out and so I got these green ones from Simple. But check out Tom’s. For every pair you buy they donate a pair to a child who needs it. I also think the shoes are very understated, rag-a-muffin chic. Long live low mainenance!
I have been sorely tempted as of late. Yesterday I went to Target to buy some household items, like a soap dispensing dish sponge, a laundry bag, bug spray, etc. (These are items I have not yet figured out how to acquire responsibly. Thus, Target it is.) In case you didn’t know, Target has amazingly cute clothes for a big box store. I was really tempted by these adorable plaid dresses for $9.99 and sweaters for $14.99. But I kept walking! Temptation overcome, budget preserved, sociopolitical statement still in tact.
If you have any suggestions for responsible companies I’d love to hear them.

Oh Alison, I’m IN LOVE with Simple Shoes and have been ever since I was like 14 and the only people who had ever heard about them were surfer bums from Santa Cruz or below… Its all I would were for YEARS! I’m glad to see people still loving them… Namely you
